Notation Software Survey

This is a report of the results from a survey of 4-year college-level music programs in the United States. The outcome is a "snapshot" of the utilization, in academia, of music notation software applications and the computer platforms used to run them. The survey was conducted during the summer months of 2005 by Scott Fessler, Associate Professor in the Composition Department of the Berklee College of Music.

From left to right, these graphs show:

• regional averages for use of the Mac OS, compared to the national average
• regional averages for use of Windows, compared to the national average
• regional ratios of Windows to Mac OS use, compared to the national average (longer bars indicate increased Windows use compared to Mac Os use)
